I don't think it's just parents, per se. Societies with high levels of corruption have high levels of political and moral apathy, because the compromised institutions reward rulebreaking and an extraction mindset and punish good behavior. Just look at Russian society. Corruption crushes culture.

I agree it’s not *just* the parents. But if the parents were good enough our children would do the right thing pretty quickly when presented with these systems.

I don't know. I think incentive/disincentive structures have a larger impact on human behavior than parenting, when the structures are both horizontally and vertically pervasive throughout a society. It's much harder to stick to good values when those values are constantly belittled and punished.

Yeah you’re probably right. When there’s no reward for being a good person and all the reward for being an asshole it’s only a matter of time I suppose.
