My fave MBV gig was them supporting the Primitives with the original drummer at the Astoria maybe 1987. Seen them several times since and I blame my screaming banshee tinnitus on those later gigs. The thought of them playing Wembley is hilarious.

Had no idea of any of the tunes they were playing. SO blown out. The sheets of ply under the mixing desk were vibrating and making an evil clapping sound. I sacked it off and went to Pizza Hut next to the main stage 😂
At Festival No. 6, I seem to remember we (@maryepworth.bsky.social and crew) wandered vaguely *near* the place they were playing, and then we Grandpa Simpsonned away immediately due to loudness
Eek. I’ve been wearing ear plugs at clubs and gigs for about 15 years as I’ve given myself non-MBV tinnitus. My custom ACS ones were worth every penny, but after recently losing one I’m making do with their cheap Pacato ones.
My ears got blown out about 10 yrs ago on a cdj that someone left the headphone volume on 10 and auto play on the CD. Was like having a knitting needle jammed in both ears. Fucked.
One of the reasons I’ve decided to quit regular DJing now 💀
I think mine partly came from trying to teach myself to mix at high volume (so I could try to understand the difference between various frequencies), only finding later that all professionals recommend mixing at low volume.
I used to work at the Roundhouse and I worked one of their gigs there- punters were BEGGING for squishy orange earplugs. WHO DID YOU THINK YOU WERE COMING TO SEE??????
