Back when it started it was my first ST show after seeing the Abrams movies. I thought it was a fun show.
After a few years and some Trek knowledge gained over watching TOS, TNG and some of DS9... I'm sorry but this is really bland, overproduced and way too emotional for my liking.
One day I read somewhere an opinion that said something along the lines that one of DIS' problems was the way it never became an ensemble show. It was always about Michael and a handful of characters. Once I realized I couldn't unsee it.
I wish it focused way more on the adventures and the side characters more often. Thankfully SNW is doing that a lot better (and even if I have my issues with it it does Trek a lot better than five seasons of DIS).
I also realize Discovery always going for spectacle, explosions and quips when it isn't trying to make you cry for hundredth time per episode made me numb to it. I couldn't care less for any of it. It really was the Marvelification of Star Trek.
I'll give them props for the huge time jump they did midway through the show. It actually gave them a lot of potential... although they wasted it on yet more end-of-the-universe threats instead of fun adventures. Season 4 was especially excruciating.
