Heat olive oil, finely sliced garlic & chili flakes in a pan, add the chopped stalks of silverbeet or chard, saute for 2-3 minutes, add the chopped leaves, add a dash of water & cover with a lid to help steam the silverbeet. Stir regularly until it's nicely tender, add salt & pepper & serve. Yum!
Haven’t tried them.
Nasturtium leaves + flowers, other wild leaves in moderation. Been experimenting with horta - greens of any sort from the garden - in the spanokopita or a green spread.
Lovely idea. I love nasturtiums. I have a pretty red variety that I let self seed & it's growing like crazy. A friend in Welly sent me the seeds after I'd admired the flowers in a salad she made on Christmas. The plants also seem to help to keep some pests at bay so I just let them go for it.
Do it- it's so very easy to grow.
When I was a very poor solo parent & couldn't afford much in the way of food, a very healthy silverbeet plant saved the day in terms of veg intake. Learned to make so many things with it & I still love it.
Pak choy is already out.I've got fascinated with growing from seed in recent years hence the lettuce and big beast silverbeet (whose name I've forgotten).
I have some in the garden, this new lot is from saved seeds. The silverbeet I have is a smaller compact one. I'm not that keen on it, but it grows in a crack in the ground, handy for soup and stir fry. Silverbeet was a vege I didn't grow up with. We're from the UK, and that was cattle food.🤣

For my lot, it's silverbeet crepe - thin crepe rolled around silverbeet, sour cream, garlic, onion & cheese
For one grandkid, it's silverbeet risotto
Crazy kids!
