Well, after learning your opinion from this huge post, I can see where you come from. As someone who was introduced to Civ games through civilization revolution on the console, could you recommend a Civ game that I could play besides Civ VI?
The honest truth is that they’re all pretty different from one another. The community gold standard is Civ 4 and it’s usually on sale. Civ 5 is also a pretty good game now with all expansions plus some DLL mods such as Vox Populi
Keep an eye on Civ 7 reviews though, it’ll be closer to Rev I think
I’m a nerd with Gamer Opinions but if your intro was Revolution (a fun game I enjoyed for its platform and goal) then you’ll probably get enjoyment out of 7 if they don’t drop the ball
6 also goes on sale a lot and is worth under $10 to see if you like it too.
I’ve played 6, got it as a gift from a friend, but I’m looking for a more long-form experience that doesn’t feel as…. How do I put this?….
I don’t like the building system of 6 with builders
Also Civ 4 base game has the best menu and theme, period. You can even set the menu independently of expansion or mod in Options so you never miss a Baba Yetu opening

It has good anti-harassment tools and features, banned generative AI material, and the devs prioritise community safety over making money.
If you ever want to check it out, I can share some resources for making that easy?
