This dominican priest teaches at Pontifical College Josephinum. what do you think the politics of the next set of seminarians in American Catholicism will be?

I really wish liberation theology was more widespread in the Catholic Church, but instead we just get a bunch of child molesters/apologists who believe the great replacement is actually happening and that Jesus is woke or something. What a stupid fucking timeline.
Way back when I was Roman Catholic and discerning, my RC Diocese was very much trying to litmus test candidates based on "fidelity to Church teachings" though the teachings they were interested in invariably were right-wing politics, not the other "woke" stuff. I expect very far-right MAGA clergy.
It still gets me to this day that what got me kicked out was that I was openly gay, but I was actually celibate at the time--whereas a MAJORITY of my brothers were out there not being celibate (some of whom were in my DMs trying to get with me!) but I was the problem.
The thing about the American catholic church is that so few Americans want to become priests they have been forced to bring in priests from Africa and Southeast Asia to fill in the gap. If he actually got what he wanted a lot of catholic churches would close due to lack of available priests.
just a caveat: don’t overestimate how mainstream the east coast dominicans are relative to US catholic clergy as a whole. they are notoriously far right, about as much so as you get without shifting into latin.
About 30 years ago, I listened to the strangest sermons I've ever heard. It came from a Jesuit priest who did short retreats at various parishes. He didn't talk about God at all. He talked about demographics. The takeaway was that, due to there being fewer young men wanting to enter seminaries,
the ones who were entering were more conservative (religiously, but we can infer politically as well) than the priests who were retiring and also more conservative than the laity in general. This trend had been going on for awhile - since the early 1980s. Fast forward to today. Those young
men are senior leaders in the Catholic Church now, and they're still very conservative. Given all of that, this kind of fascism doesn't surprise me at all.
"oh what's that you hid under the corpses of your family while your neighbors hacked them apart with machetes? the fact that my nephew is dating an Indian woman is basically the same thing"

That well-known form of nationalism without lies, hatred, and injustice.
How silly of me to forget it. After all, history is replete with examples of this sort of thing, as any fool knows.
Also the equation of diversity to genocide is just insane.
