Maintaining support between drastically different versions has become increasingly difficult and time-consuming. It's hard to keep everything running smoothly across so many updates.

My 1.21.x versions are now being downloaded far more than 1.20.1. It makes sense to focus my limited energy where the demand is.

I'm a full time university student, and juggling academia with modding and other software development related projects has become increasingly difficult thanks to 1.20.1

Working with legacy Forge (LexForge) is extremely painful for 1.20.1. I'd much rather concentrate on two modloaders - Fabric and NeoForge - than stretch myself thin working with three.

Big projects like Create are close to releasing for 1.21. The community is moving forward, and I want to keep up with where the momentum is.

With all this in mind, I've decided to sunset 1.20.1 support.

I feel like 1.21.1 is a glimpse of a modding renaissance. Not only we are moving to Neoforge which is like a new journey, many of really popular mods from 1.7.10 that never made it past it suddenly came back to 1.21.1 and also you can use Sodium with big mods which is something I would never imagine

Good reasoning here. I've been considering dropping support soon myself, especially with the issues I've been experiencing with Forge and Arch Loom. With the new drop system, it's getting harder and harder to determine what versions to maintain, especially as each minor update contains new breakage.

I've been having huge issues with arch loom and it's been massively putting me off mod development recently.

Xander, the YACL Dev has been working on a system called Modstitch which uses NeoGradle/ModDevGradle and Fabric Loom respectfully for each loader target.

I've seen the post about it, I hope something comes of it. I know I won't even really be able to test it until Yarn support is integrated. Arch Loom isn't perfect, but it's better than nothing.

Do I keep supporting all versions of 1.21 until 1.22? Will there even be a 1.22 next year, or will we get another six drops? If that happens, do I support all those, or just 1.21.1 and 1.21.8 or whatever it ends up being?

There's no right answer of course, but I'm inclined to try and balancing supporting as much as possible while focusing on the popular modding versions like 1.20.1 and 1.21.1. I'll always strive to support latest and the current modding version, but everything else is hard to say.
