First off, I find the decision to delete a PUBLIC post for getting PUBLIC attention counterintuitive because public posts invite interaction by design, and deleting them undermines any potential constructive dialogue. If you wanted it to be private, you could've marked it as Unlisted.

Second of all, by berating other people that they think are going to presumably bother them, they're berating THEIR AUDIENCE because anyone could be reading the post, even people they don't follow. So the "people I don't follow" specifier means nothing in reality.

“Boosts” are shared posts, the Mastodon equivalent of a re-tweet. Programmers sometimes call them re-blogs. If you boost a post, it will appear in the home timelines of your followers.
