They are bankrupt, they won’t cost anything to take over 🤷♂️ and of course correctly managed they will provide a necessary service and profit. Neoliberalism is the only reason Labour won’t make it a nationalised industry.

Well I’m not going to resort to personal insults because I won’t tolerate (instant block) but yes it’s frustrating, more so because it’s always a one point of opinion with no nuance or it’s generally not relevant to the conversation and completely off topic
They’re not bankrupt, and there’s the small matter of the £23bn owed by Thames Water alone. Renege on that and no bank will ever invest in any UK utility ever again and you can kiss goodbye to any infrastructure project you can name…
As rob says, we do; I mean what’s the point of general taxation if it isn’t there to benefit us all. The NHS doesn’t make a profit but it shouldn’t and neither should our necessary infrastructure. Water, energy, education shouldn’t be about profit unless you measure general well-being as profit.

The companies can be nationalised if the will is there, or at least make them non profits.
