Judge Dredd (1995, Sylvester Stallone) has him show his full face. Dredd (2012, Karl Urban) does not show his face. The former is terrible (potentially in a good way?) and the latter is excellent, though the face-showing is the reason for neither.

Character operating entirely within the law: R. Daneel Olivaw and Detective Elijah Baley in Asimov's "Caves of Steel" and "Robots of Dawn" (before Asimov pulled a heinlein and tried to make this part of his galactic empire/foundation series).

Dredd has a heck a lot of canon based around his back story and some on his home life but it is linked to the comic format so not sure how much of it would translate to movie.

Some stories only work in certain types of media

I turned off Fury Road 20 minutes in. I saw no story, only mindless violence between characters I did not know or care about. Furiosa gave the reason and depth needed to make Fury Road great on the second watch. Just my humble opinion after hearing how wrong my experience was with these films.

I’m enjoying this week’s episode! (Apropos of Dredd) Alice just posed the question “Why hire a movie star if you can’t show their whole face?” Perhaps we should hear from Christopher Nolan, who did this not once but twice with Tom Hardy (Bane and a spitfire pilot).
