Let's be super clear: this is an explicit threat to do what the US govt is doing to the NIH/NSF - de-fund *currently funded projects* which this government thinks aren't worthy of the money.

Was anyone in the 🧪sector consulted before this decision was made / announced? e.g. @nzscientists.bsky.social?! This sentence feels particularly ick: "Contracts eligible for extension will be assessed to ensure that they align with government priorities and represent good use of taxpayer money."
