I was out there doing my job and documenting a horrific terrorist attack while the administration of UCLA and the LAPD refused to do shit to stop the beatings and other assaults. They were literally being live streamed on YouTube and being broadcast on local and international news channels.

There is something there but it is IMO overstated. Their status AS elected officials is in part what makes the act of protest and disruption more meaningful as it vastly increases the likelihood of virality, while also making it much more difficult to impose real costs on them. Not true of Jon Doe

I have seen so many takes today of people, shocked, horrified & fearful. On a separate thread I suggested people look up the number arrested at the ‘68 Democratic Convention or the Civil Rights Movement. Until we’re willing to be bashed for our ethics, we won’t win.

He wasn't protesting. He was there with Congressional reps to inspect the facility, which is there in violation of state law. He was doing his job. The "protest" line is media spin to make it sound like he was doing something he shouldn't have been.

More context here for how Baraka, members of Congress and other officials have been trying to scrutinize this particular facility. Shouldn't be characterized as a protest -- these are democratically elected officials trying to exercise legal duties.
