Browser tabs are fine but... nobody's going to run your daemon. There are obvious exceptions for desperate people: piracy, activism, and employees mandated to use your tool. I don't have a crisp answer for why it doesn't work in consumer tools but I suspect it's mostly an onboarding problem.
