"you are now paying for the resources and wages for people who are building this car". The client still gets what they paid for, the company still gets paid, and the person who didn't build the car loses money and their job. Nothing was stolen, the transaction was completed

Ok but again… that is after they are caught. Like, this is the point I’m trying to make. Yes, you lose your job but if you steal something from work and give it back after you’re caught, you still stole that stapler. Is that a confusing example? I guess I’m just not understanding the difference.

Yeah, you did. But he was punished for it, got supporting evidence from his doctor saying that it was a condition outside of his control and is unlikely to happen again. Does that person deserve to always be labeled at the stapler thief?

I never billed them for anything I didn't actually do.

Research for drafting the complaint, drafting the complaint itself, pre discovery stuff, there were a couple of hearings etc.

Everything i billed for was stuff I actually did.

There was a whole investigation and with interviews and a much longer report that im sure anyone who wants can get from the VSB.
