as a former conservative evangelical, a wicked, godless liberal calling me “evil” for opposing basic human rights was proof of everything i had ever been taught in church. i was being persecuted by those who call good “bad” and right “wrong”

in MAGA’s eyes, all dems are demonic pedophiles who both deserve and require violent oppression. Chuck Shumer is laughing off insults like him and trump are two opposing lawyers eating lunch together in the middle of a case- but MAGA is obviously pointing a gun at all democrats who resist trump.

i intentionally use the word harm and (sometimes) hate. even better, i talk about the deadly impacts of their policies. i point to analogues from our own history like slavery, japanese internment, the chinese exclusion act, land theft and genocide.

I get this, but: 1) I don't think we get out of this by convincing anyone who is currently thinking like that 2) being called evil by liberals was actually convicting for me b/c while it was temporarily self enforcing it also stuck for me in the long run to reconsider that maybe they were right.
