Pretty great cherry picked example. I never mentioned illness, that comes down to a technological/medicine issue. I’m talking about things you can control

But also on the case of terminal illness. One could say they gain an acceptance of their mortality, learn the value of life at a level not many others do. Every decision they make is definite. One could argue they’re the strongest of us. I I like my take better than the nihilist view you’re giving.
In fact, today would have been my sister’s birthday Sadly brain cancer (she had an anaplastic astrocytema) robs the person of their mind as it progresses, so she didn’t get any deep insight into the fleeting nature of life
She lost who she was instead.
Soooo inspiring, amirite? So strong 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
No she wasn’t
Cancer doesn’t pick ppl based in their fortitude
And it was terminal regardless of how “hard she fought”
She didn’t recognise she basically ended up with advanced dementia as the tumour invaded her brain
She was unlucky and it was fucked
So fuck you for glorifying pain and trauma
I watched my younger sister die from a brain tumour, my mum from cervical cancer (and partner from mental illness)
Seriously, reducing a terminal illness and the trauma it creates to a ~life lesson~ is fucking disgusting
I’m genuinely infuriated
Ok, then let’s say it’s surviving rape or being raised with emotional/physical abuse.
This whole “strength through suffering” minimises the often lifelong psychological damage people live with from experiencing extreme trauma. It’s not inspiring, it’s fucking shit
