It was worse, strategy is not the only thing that affects outcome. We didn't even have professional contact tracing and even healthcare workers wore surgical masks at most. Our strategy in the UK would have been an even bigger disaster.
Sweden has the most or second most single households in the world, on top of low population density and a young healthy population. So even if the death toll was bad (especially in 2020) it's misleading, the same strategy almost anywhere else would have produced much worse numbers.
