We're trying to get out now. But it's hard. Pay sucks here and that makes saving enough to move out of state and finding a job and a place to live in advance is difficult if not impossible

Basically, if you make less than about 60K a year and have a family of 4, you aren't getting out.

In Ireland the bankers went on strike. Bartenders took over cashing checks and loaning money. NYC garbage workers go on strike to the tune of 100,000 tons of trash chest high. Solved a lot faster than the bankers strike which really only ended because they gave up and went back to work.

But legislation is different. Many legislators only agree to vote for a bill if specific provisions are included. If that provision is subsequently stricken by a court for some reason, the reason for said legislator's vote in favor is eliminated.

A clever or devious legislator might promise their less sophisticated colleagues that an iffy provision in the bill that they favor will survive court challenge in order to secure their vote for legislation containing more odious provisions that said colleague would otherwise not vote for.
