And I also just learned that the spiral arms are caused by density waves, and the stars move in and out of these arms. The higher density causes the production of stars and the arms appear bright because of heavy, bright, shortlived stars.
(joke, this is all a simulation anyway...)
Very cool to look at. But it would be WILD if a star could create a field of that size, like that. Probably just a weird coincidence.
