Easily one of my favorite shows from the past few years. Clever horror kills and some real great humor too.
It’s so good and so very queer.
And the second season fixed all the gender missteps I felt with “Seed of Chucky” with the portrayal of Glenn and Glenda as nonbinary twins.

Trust Don Mancini to know how to course correct when required. Did it three times in the franchise - turning to comedy over horror with Bride and Seed, pivoting back to horror arguably even moreso than even the original film with Curse of Chucky, and a balancing act of all the tone with the series.

Also IIRC the longest-running horror franchise with a singular voice in charge of everything in the franchise (not counting the shitty remake attempt whose premise was done far better by M3gan).

So even though I haven't seen S2 yet (life stuff got in the way), I'm nor surprised in the least that he recontextualized if not retconned Glenn and Glenda from the exploitation-comedy mid-2000s version of "gender" to something more modern.

I would have to give it a strong recommendation! Each season was excellent and explored a different theme of horror, too. Still hoping that maybe they’ll bring it back or at least give us a movie with the show’s characters to wrap up their story.

Another thing I've learned: Never count Mancini out. He's resurrected the franchise from death three times if you count the studio screwing him by doing to remake film while he was pitching the TV show to networks. I don't think we'll ever see the end of Chucky.

I hope so! The show had such the perfect balance of camp, humor, horror, and some truly brilliant gory kills.

Mancini is truly a master of his craft. I haven’t enjoyed horror as much over the past few years but Chucky was brilliant and hit that special way that older slashers did.

To expand a bit, I think the season-long model works amazingly well because the characters are given time to breathe. Instead of relying on cookie-cutter character stereotypes, we get to know each character, even more minor ones. Which ramps the tension BIG TIME when they're in danger.
