Poetry is like music. It's supposed to have a rhythm of some sort. Of course, what that rhythm should be is up for interpretation.

Further confession:

I never cared much for poetry until I took a creative writing course from Adrienne Rich (!!) in college. We spent half the semester on short stories and half on poetry and she blew my eyes wide open to how poetry works.

I just hate more formal poetry. Some of it is beautiful, sure, but the adherence to strict meter forms tends to suck the soul out of it for me.

I like free verse and funny. Ogden Nash is my hero, lol.
