We need to ditch the dumb entitled petty assholes in the states as a model for progress and look at less predatory societies like the Dutch and the way they handle bike traffic, those underground parking facilities are something else
Once impressed, we need to be convinced this is no cherry picking. After so many years seeing the same 4 views in Utrecht, that are clearly very good proofs of concepts, we need to convince this is not hiding the forest of car-business as usual (global modal shares in Dutch cities are interesting).
Well you can fire up Streetview and go to random places, if your not landing on a highway you probably see (protected/separate) bike infrastructure or shared use spaces with traffic calming and often more bicycles visible than cars.
Well. Ann is at scale for people as opposed to cars. I know that I can go a couple miles on a bike to the train but if I have to go 5 miles on a bike to the train that is problematic.
This is fabulous if your commute to work is 12km or less, or your trip to a transit hub is 7km or less, and weather is temperate, and there is infrastructure at the end for equipment security and personal care, among other things.
Even w infrastructure, this isn’t feasible for most NorAmericans
They’re building homes and communities with no thought to any of this (it’s all about developer profit) and try to jam it in unsuitably a decade later causing transportation chaos and actually endangering lives.
