My top 3 single-season shows are the ones you mentioned plus True Detective S1 - which is effectively a single-season show because it’s self contained

I'd change the order but that's a perfect top five. I'm crazy about the leftovers. That show got through to me on a very personal level.

I don't know how it plays across the pond but Friday Night Lights is also great

The shows are in two tiers.
I’m not really sure on the rankings within the tiers.
I started rewatching The Leftovers for the first time recently - I’m going to start S2 soon. It might be my favourite show despite the lack of rewatches.

The first few seasons were very good (genre-subverting, to name a good thing), which makes the utter absurdity of the final seasons all the more frustrating (yes, I feel strongly about this). Re good outweighing bad: It’s like eating most of my favorite meal, then finding worms in it at the end.
