but 1. really really really is way above the average fare these days. There is a lot of exposition there and it's really done incredibly well. (I actually think 2. is also something you really ever see done well ever, and certainly not in big tents like this)

I did not know the history very well (although I did go into a wiki rabbit hole about it) but the hybrid place occupied by Mississippi Delta Chinese folk in the hierarchy is also extremely well done both in the exposition and in the supernatural bits (same as Mary, of course)

One thing that struck me was that the "can I get my money" scene was noticably better than the set piece! So I looked to see who was credited with the action choreography.

The action choreography was done by Coogler, but many scenes had input from everyone involved (famously the big dance piece).

I agree that it's a great movie, but there are parts of it that I don't get, and if you could spell out why (3) isn't just sort of weird, I'd be in your debt. Making an Irish victim of colonialism into the villain (and trying to make Celtic dance sinister) is... puzzling me. (He seems so nice!)

The action was where it let me down. I don’t think any of it was poorly made, but the horror action and action action of the climaxes just didn’t have the visceral impact I was hoping for.

It went from great to fine. Loved the long buildup.

I think they probably sacrificed a lot of the end fight stuff and the buildup to it in the edit, there are a bunch of unnamed people killed who only exist in the background and out of focus
