I'm on the fence, and most of it is the ability to leave and the ability to make anything I do matter here. No matter what, we make the most of what we can do, and there will be regrets, either way, but working through them is what matters.
Just become the ship is sinking doesn't mean we shouldn't try to save lives. I have no vested intrest in preserving the institution that brought us here, but I do think we can pervent harms and rebuild.
Look, I can understand trans people who can afford it wanting to move to Canada, but I feel obligated to stay in the country until these assholes are deposed. I don't even want to visit Canada till a Democrat is president again, it's my duty to stay here.
Viet Cong had excellent results against the US Military. The French Resistance had excellent results against the Nazi German military. The Minute Men had excellent results against the British military.
And if the United States military starts attacking United States civilians on United States soil I think you will find the vast majority of Americans join the underground resistance.
Miss me with that "how dare you" shit, the NYT notoriously sanewashed Trump while telling everyone Biden had Parkinsons and now they're publishing "here's some people who say you should run for your life" after they helped get us in this mess
If I could afford to leave, I'd be gone yesterday. It's not because I don't want to fight. It's because I have a child who is part of a group being targeted with the same language used before the Nazis came for them. Protecting him is more important than any country.
I don’t think we should be judging people for whatever choice they make. Stay and fight if you think it’s worth the risk. But the risk is real and it’s not trivial. Nobody should be expected to endanger themselves and/or their loved ones by staying if they have the means to leave.
It was a massive red flag when they initially reported leaving though. I remember real panic setting in when I read that news in conjunction w/Columbia U's fucked decisions 2 months ago bc the universities are typically a 1st focus on the fascism path.
Love this different perspective.
On the academics, all leaving Yale, I wonder, is there something we don't know, maybe they sensed a Columbia-type turn coming. Just seems like if Yale wanted to keep them there, they probably could have come up with something to do that.
I’m beginning to understand the source of the suspicions, resentments, and ass whoopings of a certain class of person that happened during and after previous revolutions.
I don't know, Jason Stanley comes from a family of holocaust survivors and has talked about how those families will always be watching for signs and have a plan for the right moment to leave. I admire those who stay and feel for those who don't have a choice, but I don't blame the ones who leave.
What the fuck are you on about? He's a philosophy professor and outspoken, progressive leftist who wants to take his two black kids to live elsewhere. So he writes books?? Wft
He’s a craven hypocrite who is complying in advance and setting a loud example for other elites to follow who could otherwise use their privileged status to defend institutions instead of flee.
He has no influential “life’s work” besides book tours that can possibly excuse this level of cowardice.

Of us can’t ditch and run . Too bad they dont
Stay and fight
The New York Times publishing this is messed up.
“the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances"
And we’ve got plenty of grievances

Regardless, you can’t “infight” with people who have already left you behind to die. Have some self-respect.

Fuck them other people too.
