seriously: most indigenous healers have a framework for understanding illness that divides the world of disease into "our sicknesses" and "white people's sicknesses". "Our sicknesses" are spiritual and need indigenous medicine, white people's sicknesses are non-spiritual and need doctors

I always used to tell my students that if they had a time machine, and were traveling backwards, to fill their pockets with tubes of triple antibiotic cream from Walgreens and they'll be treated like gods.
