He's a really fun player. I also don't understand why they didn't try to have him take more time at second just to see if he could get that part of his game back and increase the versatility. They just didn't seem to have a plan for him.

Rooker wore it the same week and he has $60+ million now so I don't think that was it. But they really didn't like his skill set, which is weird given it was the same skill set he had before they acquired him.

Thanks! I don't recall there being any outrage over Rooker wearing it. I wonder if it's a case of "Rooker is worth the headache" cause he's not someone you wanna lose over something so trivial. But I agree with the skill set thing and how it's odd considering that's who he is.

At the time both were lumped together but obviously Rooker ended up getting the regular playing time and Ruiz just dropped off the radar so there was definitely a different outcome. That said, I really just think it was the skill set thing.

They've made a number of good trades over the years so this isn't an overall indictment of their approach, but they do have a tendency at times to acquire players whose skills *could* work if they were different in some way, & then as soon as it's apparent they can't be different, they lose interest

I like what they've done in years past with some of their trades, but yeah, seems like they don't always stick it through. Hoping he can find some success here in LA because the skills are so raw and he has potential to be a good big league player.
