Notably it was groups of women throughout the country (the first was led by a woman named Mary Ann Williams in Georgia) who publicly advocated to have a national day, annually, dedicated to memorializing fallen soldiers.
While that first ritual was no doubt beautiful and historical significant, there is no evidence linking it to General Logan’s later calls for Memorial Day as an actual thing.
