Thought this was great, tho more targeted towards academic scientists vs all of us in the scientific enterprise - those in industry, science policy, scicomm, program administration, etc. Would love to think through how we all evolve.

Scientists and scientific societies seem woefully unequipped to fight a battle for public opinion. The old dull science policy playbook of quietly working appropriations / Congress won’t work here. Scientists need a media strategy.

“Trump is firing cancer scientists” seems like an easy pitch.

Great piece. I have been thinking along similar lines: that we need to archive and preserve the scientific progress we’ve made, for other societies that are still willing to carry the torch of the Enlightenment.
