Hmm, putting relatives and friends in the same bucket as paramedics and firefighters sounds weird.
As a firefighter/paramedic you're somewhat used to see people injured or dead. If it's in the private context it's a complete different story.
Therefore in question the quality of this study.

To set some context: I'm doing volunteer firefighting for 35+ years now. I just wanted to point out that it's a huge difference if you loose a family member or a good friend in an accendient, or of you're called for incident response for people you don't know in person. 1/2

Of course you try everything you can rescueing them, you're empathic as well. However not being able to help happens as well and you need to protect yourself by putting a mental barrier between on scene work and your private life.
I've seem too much to allow it to hurt me. 2/2

I think it's about sensitising people to how stressful it can be for you professional helpers to see what is disguised as ‘seriously injured’. These are also traumatic experiences, even if it's your job.

Motorized injury and death is a big business. In addition to emergency personnel, there are nurses, surgeons, psychiatrists, pharmaceutical representatives, hospital administrators, cleaning crews, and groundskeepers.

'A speed limit on German motorways is not an issue, according to Bär. "We have many studies on this. That would not lead to more safety," she said.
