We are unionizing the games industry: training workers to organize and take back power in their workplaces and industry at large. This message shows our solidarity with those impacted by Cliffhanger and gets the word out about our direct-to-join union to game workers on BlueSky.
The idea of unionizing is great, really. But how exactly do you do it across an international industry?
Sounds to me like "we" is just the West, as usual.
And I don't mean to poke holes or criticize your comment. I just don't think those terms present the actual picture is all.
Glad you asked: the Communication Workers of America (CWA), our “parent” union operates within both the US and Canada, so our union can encompass both countries. “We” is all game workers in the US and Canada who want to take back power from the execs who are destroying the art form we love.
My point is simply that last time I signed anything directly with EA, the paperwork came from Switzerland on behalf of the German team I would work with.
I hope it spreads. But more importantly, I hope they coordinate the efforts internationally.
The insult to injury lies in EA going back on its commitment to DEI policies by laying off the multitude of marginalized devs working on Black-led projects like Black Panther.
Then you're not paying attention to it, and weirdly shilling for a man who would stab you in the kidney if it increased his personal bonus by a few pennies.
The constant layoffs are by design, not demand. Studios deliberately cycle out their developers so they can take advantage of a fresh new wave of them, leaving thousands without jobs, stability, or livelihoods for their family.
Mona would hate you simping for corporations, for the record.

No one here is going to go "I disagree, I was super onboard with the closure actually" so what are you achieving with this?

A large developer should be able to reallocate most people between projects.
Devil is in the detail and also down to whether execs are acting in good faith.

but what the fuck is this supposed to mean? You're saying diversity and inclusion are bad? What?
Extremely poorly worded.
