Well AirBnB in the last years was turning into an extremely greedy monopolist anyways. And I guess it will become a rather tough time for AirBnB owners in the US, which tourist in their right minds will dare to visit the country anymore?
Get on it everyone! Summer is coming. Delete that app and make other plans. Visit a national park and be extra careful and respectful. They're short staffed and need our support more than ever.
Good! I'm convinced the whole "vacation rental" shark frenzy was designed to irradicate communities in tourist towns. Worked like a charm! Time for a VR collapse so we can build back our communities!
The messed up part? Cybertruck owners and the people who have sympathy for them, will take that as a threat. Everyone else will read it as putting them a few steps closer to understanding what it's like for most of us.
I had at one time property..well..more than one..with Airbnb. They were awful..guests dismantled exterior cameras..EXTERIOR..Airbnb support? "What you want US to do?". They are awful. No more properties (other than my home). Hotels Never them. Now really NEVER them.
Tourism will hit an all-time low this summer. Hotels will be begging for business, so why stay in a sketchy house where you have to check for hidden cameras in the toilet & then do 3 hrs of housework to avoid excessive fines? How is that a vacation? Did it 3 times - never again.
Airbnb sucks anyways. Who wants to pay extra money to pay a cleaner when you've already cleaned? And I don't go on vacation to cook and clean like I do at home. That's not a break.
Thiel's far more insidious - he doesn't seem to need adoration like Musk, so he's happy to work his destructive schemes from the shadows. Nasty piece of work.
I looked past AirBnBs societal issues until last year, because I really never had a bad stay and it is more economical for a family. Booked an amazing Island vacation in Jan on HipCamp and VRBO that wad better.
Why not both at the same time? They are flooding the zone because we take up one issue at a time. Why not start making them deal with a flood of major problems with us at the same time. We need to take all of our issues and run them to ground.
How dare you use YOUR money that YOU earn to support businesses that align with YOUR values & to not support businesses that operate contrary to YOUR integrity! So un-American! So contrary to free markets and freedom of speech! How Dare you! #boycot, #airbandb, #freedom, #choice
Thanks for this! I’ll check it out. I’ve had several bad experiences with VRBO canceling last minute and I’ve been looking for an alternative for my once a year vacation.
Thanks for the heads up. I will not be using those websites at all I will be more of a https://booking.com or verbo. Please tell me it's okay to use verbo
Booking, Vrbo, https://Hotels.com are now all part of the larger Expedia group. So if you’re 100% against large corporations, I guess you’re hosed. But I’ve always had good customer experience with those brands. I’ve always preferred them to AirBnB.
I'm a traveling technician and I depend on Airbnb for affordable housing and dignified living standards on the road, but I can switch to a camper. It's more economical anyway, and it's a small comfort to sacrifice in the face of tyranny.
Joe Gebbia is not CEO of Airbnb and though still on the board, not involved in it's day-to-day operations since July 2022. He was a co-founder and owns an estimated 7% of the company at this point. So please consider if hurting all the homeowners that may be supplementing their income is worthwhile.
Never stayed at any Airbnb, but I know some people definitely make a living out of renting out their vacation home. This will impact them because people will not travel due to the unstable economy. Not to mention the cancellations on tourism to the US. No one wins here.
We have watched our beautiful cities globally fall into despair partially due to Airbnb . As citizens let’s shut this down so we can take our communities back
Lack of accountability is what drove many to rent their houses to travellers. Having to furnish, heat, aircon & clean a house + yard nets similar income. Lack of harsh damage makes short term better.
Condos shouldn’t be able to ABnB at all. Fills no gap & condos are better suited to long term rent.

It hurts
It scares them
And it puts them one step closer to living in a cybertruck down by the river

It’s not much, but at least it’s something. I do think it would be better to focus on a single company and destroy them, then move on.

Why?
Have you ever heard of him? Prolly not. But he has shaped significant parts of all of our worlds.
But I hear Lyft did not. Is this correct?
Read sarcasm.
