Hot take: The further we get from Black people being able to get mentorship and guidance from the Civil Rights generation, then the more lost we will become as a people until that void is filled.

An issue I see among many young activists, and unfortunately some who are no longer young enough to still be in the “my mama didn’t know shit” phase. “We are not our grandparents” HAD to be turf.
no offense or disrespect but I truly believe that those “we are not our grandparents” people were genuinely ignorant. I don’t think that an external force has to convince a donkey to be an ass, just my observation
Well the first thing to think of is what created the Civil Rights generation? Was part of it 1. Strong Community Centers ( learned a lot there) 2.Cultural Heritage 3. Read a lot A Lot 4. Valued Education above all else, they can take away damn near everything but once your educated it’s yours🌚🌚🌘🌚
2/2 library card. I took my grands to get them as early as I could. Barnes and noble was a weekend trip with them to buy a book and have lunch. When they read it we discussed it. Building a relationship with books is important right now. They want us erased from history.
I agree. The only thing for kids to do is video games. Where’s the boys and girls clubs? The libraries seem to be moved just outside black neighborhoods. Correct me if I’m wrong. They are also stocked different. I’m an avid reader and lived in libraries. Now it’s digital. Most kids don’t have a 1/2
They have a desire to learn. One of my students knew what debt-trap diplomacy was. There IS curiosity, it’s just that, rather than peer-reviewed sources, everyone’s getting their info from the internet.
That’s what I told my students after Trump was elected. It’s sort of what I focused on to prevent myself from just genuinely feeling like life was meaningless. Many of them are immigrants, or the children of immigrants, so were understandably terrified. No one can take away their education.
Like, we've always had idiot narcissists in our community, but the amount of people who are cosplaying 1980's Eldrige Cleaver and buying into MAGA talking points is ridiculous.
I definitely believe this. It is a problem we need to figure out how to address, for real.
Because between the loss of the elders, and the theft of our books and stories, folks will be out here acting like they were born yesterday…because that’s as much history as they know…😔

People are lulled and placated, perhaps by design
The "we ain't our ancestors" foolishness was an example of this.
As more of us feel more pain, more change will come until the system is remade.
