We all know I'm often out there because I'm obsessed with the nudis but I'm an all-around tidepool critter stan too. I was thrilled to see so many thriving sea stars. Bat star feeties, a super tiny ochre star, and an even tinier unidentified baby star!

As a little kid I *loved* ochre stars. They were my favorite tide pool finds, in their vivid purples and oranges. Later I forgot to cherish them, until sea star wasting disease wiped the coast clean in 2014. Now I never fail to tell each one that I love them and they're doing a great job.

I saw a few big gorgeous clown dorids, or Triopha catalinae. Bright and shiny, even on a gray day. They have so much personality!

Last time I was at this same spot, I saw zero of these guys and a bunch of Cockerell's dorids, which are similarly colored but a more adorable round baby shape. Today, several clown dorids and only one fun-sized Cockerell's!

It was really the day of the spotted triopha (Triopha maculata), though. These guys were all over in some tide pools, blazing orange and cruising around like they owned the place. (I mean, I guess they do?)

They're so handsome. All those little dots and frills, just dapper af.

Oh no, it’s so appreciated! I learn a lot in the ALT (& am always delighted to laugh at quirky or fun details) & even as a sighted person good ALT improves how I see! I love info so it’s like MORE INFO! = better understanding. Having blind & low-sighted friends means I don’t re-post w/o it either. 🫶🏼

I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for the return of the sunflower stars! They were hardest hit. But there's a few projects ongoing to try to grow and release them back to the reefs!
