If I moved back to Cornwall I would have no option than to learn to drive and buy a car, because a corrupt transport minister destroyed the rail network outside SE England in the 1960s and bus companies are privately run and mostly useless. Why not sort that out? - ThreadSky

Public transport outside of the London area is abysmal. That's a good start, but so much more needs to be done. You HAVE to drive in a lot of areas. How about we aim for making it possible to get to work and go out at night without a car? Things London people take for granted.

One thing at a time. They have neither infinite time nor infinite money, so they have to choose their battles and priorities. They are currently trying to fix the worst damage from 14 years of Tory!

It’s not really prioritising car drivers, in my opinion, but encouraging councils to use the money for infrastructure repair. Visible improvements make a big difference to lots of people.

I believe that is one of the things the government intends to do and with local government reorganisation should come local transport oversight.
I must say with great respect comparing Cornwall with London takes some doing.

It's definitely very different. It's 1 bus or 1 train, take that away and you've got nothing, hence you need a car. The impact is much worse. Heavily-used public transport in areas like London needs to subsidise vital public transport in areas of lower population. It's a service, not a business.

Absolutely. We've services here that stop at 4pm or even 1pm, don't do weekends at all. Service has halved since 2010.
And - surprise - huge traffic jams.
