Course changes at the University of North Texas’ college of education included removing words such as “race,” “gender,” “class” and “equity” from titles and descriptions

Interesting because SB 17, the anti-DEI statute at issue, explicitly doesn't apply to course instruction. UNT's actions thus arent done to comply with the law, but rather they seem to be using that excuse either to push through ideological changes to curriculum or in anticipatory obiedence
Controlling what your people learn in school is one of the primary pillars of authoritarian government. And Texas is leading the charge. (With Oklahoma not far behind.)
And to add salt to the wounds Trump is going to give reparations to white people that claim discrimination in systems of education. We are truly living in the upside down and ass backwards.
Funny, it was only several years ago conservatives were mocking "infantalized" students who were hiding from scary ideas as Judith Shulevitz wrote. Conservatives now doing the same thing. Hiding from history and truth and trying to hide it from others.
That's where I met people who were openly atheist, left-wing, and other types who my parents told me were evil, for the first time. I have some good memories from there, and I regret being a terrible student. It's sad to see things change in a bad way, but I guess it's darkest before the dawn.
It was not long ago that we scoffed at the Chinese "re-education camps". And here we are, imposing our own orthodoxy of intolerance.

Eliminating "equity" and "class" from our vocabulary? What doesn't the new ruling class want you to know?
Used to be a professor/sociologist there. That takes care of many social science classes - and is censorship. Hell, I used to even show Eyes on the Prize in my classes. Reason # 12,467 why I am glad I am retired.
I think we're going to see even more entrenched geographic polarization as people migrate between red & blue states bc of state policies like this & bc they'll pick up the job that the federal government will throw to them (eg. No Dept of Ed). Red states will be redder & blue states bluer
My wife went to UT and we went to the campus while we were in town recently, she wanted to show me the diversity center… it turned into a ghost town. This is so sad for our future
This is *not* an effort to comply with the law! That anti-diversity law only passed because it includes an exemption for race, gender, and sexual orientation studied as part of coursework.
Does UNT hate diversity more than the Texas legislature does?
That's America's problem. This whole "we're all just alike" bullshit has convinced people that differences shouldn't be discussed though we're all VERY different. America knows that's a lie but they repeat it to give folks a false sense of security while they destroy us
Some years back, my company made us all take a class to understand and promote DEI. They made a point of dismissing everything except "what makes each person unique." This irked me particularly because they also have company meetings in a nearby Baptist church, even though we have ->
... two huge auditoriums on campus. The company also has no problem with allowing (evangelical) employees to use company resources to promote their particular religion.
The political cult that so loves to make derogatory digs at their opponents for being sensitive to the needs of others sure loves to advertise which words trigger them beyond all consolation.
I’m being told this does NOT count as establishing an echo chamber, since it doesn’t have the one defining trait to an echo chamber (telling a conservative to shut the fuck up for once in their goddamn lives)

I suspect it will get far worse before it gets far worse.

The more they try to "whitewash" history and refuse to teach historical facts, the more we will seek out those facts and preserve them on our own.
Now there are book lists/clubs specifically dedicated to spreading those books and their message to as many people as possible.
It’s very diverse and has a huge emphasis on liberal arts.
My heart hurts for these students. 💔
