On this day in 1959, the Escuminac Hurricane hit Atlantic Canada. Along the coast of New Brunswick, the storm produced 15 metre high waves that destroyed dozens of boats. Several homes were destroyed by the 121 km/h winds. A total of 35 people died, mostly fishermen.
