One potential difference now is that "Trump Tariffs" is easily digestible for voters in the same way "Bidenomics" was. You don't need to get too bogged down in the details. Just keep saying "Trump Tariffs" over and over again.

Policies often create losers, and it's often a matter of trust in the policy-maker that the cost is worth the reward. If they believe Trump that the tariffs are necessary, they'll just accept it.

On the other hand, Trump lost re-election in 2020. So there was obvious backlash to his screw-ups.
