I'm sure the answer is more complex than this, but I see it as basically checking our intentions of why we do something.

This hit home with me. I have been doing this w my enormous MAGA family for so long. Weβve a family agreement to not talk politics, but just be together & love each other. I announced to them recently that I am done with keeping my mouth shut. I donβt know how they feel, but I feel so much better!

A great example why: when you're authentic, you attract your tribe. My silly little quirks and shit have gained me the best friends of my life and continue to attract like-minded weirdos into the fray
I wish I had this advice as a teenager - I feel like my adulthood has been spent reclaiming the parts of myself I cut away in the hopes of being more accepted.
