For 50 years, the field of bioethics has focused on laws, regulations & norms but failed to adequately grapple with issues of power.
This is true across the board in education and our society as a whole. We are now seeing the consequences of that failure.
It also cuts across party lines, and will haunt our children and grandchildren.
*independent review boards with diverse stakeholders (not just scientists) to evaluate research priorities and funding decisions
*true scientific integrity: binding frameworks that separate day-to-day research operations from political appointments
