I dont follow the fightan geemu like i used to, is there a specific reason why everywhere i look i see the perception MK is dead? i've only ever known one person who played the series and mostly as a waiting room for the next Tekken.
Due to a bunch of issues stemming from it being rushed out the door for the holiday season, MK1 fell off a cliff in just a couple months after launch. And the rumor is that the DLC sold so badly that they're no longer doing another season pass.
It's pretty much guaranteed at this point since NRS games have a track record for being second-lowest, at best, and MK1 in particular has been pissing a lot of people off on the whole
I'm genuinely wondering why MK1 and VF5 weren't switched in slots but I have to assume there's some obligation
Honestly kinda feels like there's an obligatory NetherRealm game there every year just as a legacy pick. Doesn't matter if it's not popular, there's a spot locked for them.
MK's gameplay is not enjoyed by the FGC at large, underwhelming story + DLC story, Warner Bros seems to also be hampering the game in some capacity based on reduced community interaction, etc.
Exactly the kind of thing I was looking for. Thanks.
When I think about Mortal Kombat I think about Cosmic Chinese Fantasy. You'd think it'd be easy to make an interesting story and world out of that, but clearly WB is having trouble lol.
It had a very troubled development and the bones just aren't very strong (rumors that they were working on Injustice 3 but changed mid development, and the swapped to Unreal 4). NRS games usually come out mostly polished (PC versions are a different story) and this one came out a broken mess.
The thing that got me was that I couldn't be in practice mode while waiting for a match. Just basic quality of life stuff in most fighting games was entirely absent.
I wanna try get into KI as a spectator. i've gotten decent at it over years of playing (big accomplishment for a fighting game tourist) and now that i understand how it all works along with the anniversary update, im hype to see the most ultra of combos

You talking so excitedly about VF fills me with this kind of warm nostalgia of playing Fighters Megamix on my Saturn as a child
and has me thinking about picking up VF, even though I am bad at fighters and don't usually like them
What went wrong with MK1? Aesthetically at least, MK is the coolest fighting game IMO. So why does it seem like its been swept under the rug?
Max put out a video on it, if you want a small summary: https://youtu.be/G6rnVTyrVNE

Hasnt this most recent reboot been universally panned?
