I'd rather support folks legitimately than resort to add-ons that slow down my experience. But I also don't shame folks that do this because ads are insane on most websites.
Most honest youtubers also hate how prevalent ads are these days, buy their individual memberships instead cause more of that money goes to them anyway.
Channels still get money from viewers with YT premium, because they can't make ad revenue off them YouTube gives a little something off the top to the creators. Whether it's more than ad viewers I have no idea
You can still support youtubers without ads or premium, join their memberships, or if you cant sometimes engagment is enough. They dont just say like, comment, and subscribe for funsies. Then you can adblock guilt free.
my ad blocker knocks 'em down but that happened to me once, long ass ads that wouldn't stop, close and re-open and it'll go back to blocking the ad garbage
I wish they never had ads. That's what I loved about YouTube. I followed a lot of series on there before the ads, and now I have to make the Epic decision of do I pay for premium or deal with commercials? Ads are basically commercials and commercials are an advertising method from a bygone era.
And the cycle of updates continue. Still wont have to deal with ads at the cost of just a few seconds of upload time as opposedto constantly closing browsers and reopening them.
I mainly watch YouTube on my phone and have submitted to Google and paid for premium… to me it’s worth it for the fact I can download videos. I pretty much moved all my podcast listening to YouTube now… screen off…
Every morning I load up about 4-6 hours of new content on my phone. Having it all on the app is very convenient. Plus when I watch on my TV the no ads helps.
Also some places I go have terrible cell service because of congestion (too many connections to 1 tower I guess) and stuff doesn’t even load. Having it downloaded stops the buffering and videos just not loading. And I know it’s the cell service because my iMessage stops working to, just goes to mms
Well I listen to a lot of stuff at work… like a lot of videos I don’t even need to watch, mostly listen to, and unfortunately I don’t have wifi available and data caps on cell plans are still a thing. I have a large cap but I burn through it pretty quick if I don’t download.
I was once very pro-Google. In fact, I have a gmail address from the beta days that’s just my surname. But over the last few years between them killing off products I liked and enshittifying search, I’ve been moving away from them as much as I can. I couldn’t give them money without gagging.
I wish there was a way around it but on iPhone there isn’t as many options as Android to get around Google stuff. I was dumb in the Gmail beta days and made a childish account that is now gone… should have done what you did…
Also on Apple here. I'm not denigrating you for your choice at all.
I'm just disappointed in Google for turning from "cool company who has cool services" to "creepy company working hard to give users a terrible experience"

No ads ever
No ads ever and it's FREE
Now I can be extra lazy and not have to close and reopen. >:3
PipePipe for mobile.
There’s a new Chrome extension for that.
And after they remove that Chrome extension for being “unsafe”,
There’s a new Chrome extension for that.
And after—
My plan is to never see or hear another ad than can be avoided in what remains of my life.
The audacity.

I mean that's fine, but now I'm dying to know what you're doing with it all. I grab maybe 5 per year and save the rest to playlists.
