So you don’t see that transparency could be situated in a value conflict in general? E.g. open peer review where people fear retaliation.

That is not a good example. No one cares about signing a name to your review, as long as reviews themselves are open. More important is open data, code etc. There is 0 value conflict there. People really just do not give a shit as @jdmiller.bsky.social nicely put it.

But people review differently when their name is on it, aren’t they? I don’t think that transparency is for free in general. But this might be different for other particular Open Science practices.

In general reviewers are less likely to sign negative reviews https://www.semanticscholar.org/paper/Reviewers'-Decision-to-Sign-Reviews-is-Related-to-Sambeek-Lakens/3c65e64f82b730aeae312829598d3707723ae40a. But this is a red herring. @aschniedermann.bsky.social is intentionally focusing on a tiny detail to distract from the actual issue. Reviews, code, and data should be open, no one does it.

It's like saying: Being on fire is not nice, but if we pour too much water on you you might drown. The solution is to have the right amount of transparency. Signing should be voluntary. Sharing data and code should be required, otherwise people who do not give a shit will never do it.
