1. My father told me this >50 years ago, & I still think about it a lot today: privatization of government-provided services will always be one of the goals of Capitalists. There are some services which can be provided as well or better by businesses. However, no service on which people rely in
2. order to sustain life or simply function daily should ever be privatized. Those services include healthcare, education, basic transportation, mail delivery, military protection, emergency services like police & fire. The reason why those services, among others, should not ever be handled by
3. businesses is because you don't ever want to be in a situation where you NEED one of those services, and the business owner can decide to raise the price or stop offering the service. A greedy business owner could hold people hostage by raising the price so high that not everyone could afford it,
4. and an evil person could let people die in order to scare everyone else into paying outrageous prices.
I wish Americans would understand that EVERYONE is supposed to not only survive, but thrive. Government is not supposed to allow a certain percentage of the population to starve
5. to death, freeze to death, or die from lack of healthcare. Democratic government's reason to exist is to ensure the survival, protection & well-being OF ALL OF THE PEOPLE. Wealthy people don't need protection; poor, sick & vulnerable people do. STOP carrying water for people with paid servants.
