As I recall, IKEA products had a lot of formaldehyde. We bought a bookshelf back in the 90s, stuck it in the ,and went back for lunch. It was summertime.
We came out about an hour later, opened the car door, and were knocked back by the formaldehyde fumes. Drove home with all the windows down.

I once worked selling RV Trailers to make ends meet. The inexpensive trailers are made of plywood and contain a huge amount of off-gassing formaldehyde. Always wondered if they were tested to be safe with kids. I'm sure some industry studied say it's OK. Also, don't buy an RV.

Wood-framed construction (in which most of live & work) built with plywood, which contains formaldehyde in the laminate. High acidity (cheap) woods such as pine react with it, break down to toxic reaction products incl formic acid among others. Toxicity varies w/ manufacturer, but it’s ubiquitous.

BTW, your beautiful (and expensive) cabinets made of oak are super acidic — horrible for archival storage. Ditto many synthetic to wood laminates bc — guess what — they contain formaldehyde. Some ppl, esp children can become highly sensitized, develop severe allergic reactions.

Please also check your indoor formaldehyde levels. In home levels are typically higher than outdoor levels, come from such things as new construction, new furniture and dry cleaning, and tend to stagnate unless you have great circulation.

Agree on this, but my comment was more just pessimistic humor, I'll add, while the consumer can do things it's much much harder to get things done (gaining a collective consensus on anything is hard) and producers, govnt regulations, etc, are so much easier

Well, this is a problem. But, after drilling down, the article showed that the locations that are most affected in my state are all very conservative, in fact MAGA, cities. I will get around to riding something about this eventually.
