Not only do they need a psych unit, their community needs a patient advocacy service. University of San Diego Law School does that in my area.

Big mental health crisis in the US! My 92yo mom was murdered in 2023 by a 33yo guy w 39 arrests since 2013 & was always let go due to inability to help w defense. He stabbed her 49x & hit her head 8x w a hammer! He was released from the county jail that day & he killed her @ 4:30am next day.

It’s already been said and agreed according to government reports local and federal that red states have the worse healthcare. California has created an app for people to get mental help since therapists are overloaded and extremely expensive. State sponsored. At least blue state trying.
