Yeah this is the direction I’m heading, and probably should be where a lot of teachers go. It’s gonna take revising class time, grading habits, and the scope of curriculum… depth not breadth….

I do wonder if I'm doing the right thing by not having them practice writing complete essays, but I also feel like what I'm trying to mainly teach is thinking skills, and the assignments are showing evidence of thinking. AI can't do it for them. Maybe a different ELA class can focus on full essays

Depends on grade level / kind of class? I do think there’s value in some kind of full-length response, even if you don’t want to call it an “essay.” Many years ago our district was on the wiki train and I got one up and running. Blog posts + archive of research is pretty cool.

Corollary: nothing will be 100%. AI is just the latest tool for cheating. File cabinets full of old papers & tests, cliff notes, snap math, crib sheets taped to water bottles, answers written on shoes….same shit just a glossier version with corporate ethics failure
