To them, liberal means someone mostly to the left on social issues/civil rights, but much more center-right when it comes to their economic politics. It comes down to whether someone wants to work within capitalism to make it more fair, or if they recognize capitalism is inherently exploitative.

To a lot of young people today, the idea of reforming our current “free market“ capitalist system is a fool‘s errand at best, or intentional hindering of progress at worst.
They don’t necessarily want socialism, but they want better alternatives than Nazism or Reaganomics-lite. I share that goal.
There is a virus that has invaded liberalism that wants to tear down those principals. It says that only selected speech is free. It says equal rights for some and tyranny and oppression to be used as tools of vengeance. This virus is called woke and it needs to be rooted our or liberalism may die

However, it appears for a lot of younger progressive people they use the word in an almost entirely different way.
