The issues with med accessibility isn’t because of public health, its a function of our healthcare system and nation as a whole. Everyone fucking hates it unless they’re profiting from it, and it sucks. Companies don’t want to cover the generic because they’ll get less money back.

I am extremely aware of why this isn’t. I am making a political point that the health industry is not acting as though obesity is a very big problem, or, the health industry agrees it’s a problem but then wants people to continue to suffer from it unnecessarily. Can’t have both.

The companies know there are people who pay full cost so they won’t lower the price, but there will be cheaper generics from them and other companies. It’s a terrible system and we all know this, but we can’t turn around and say some condition isn’t actually harmful because it’s not covered by them.

The main issue isn’t that obesity isn’t harmful, it’s that a medicine that helps people lose weight is extremely expensive and often not covered by insurance.

This is heightened by the fact that obesity is a thing the doctors all say would save everyone money on healthcare if it didn’t exist. But instead of making the drug to treat it affordable, they don’t.

Pharmaceutical companies as a whole don’t care about regular people, they care about people who can and will pay. They don’t care about public health, they care about the health of the paying individual, so they will never want to lower prices in the US unless something monumental happens.

Yep. That’s why we need to eminent domain their stuff. We already until recently paid for all the research so it’s unclear why we have allowed them to rook us all to our collective detriment for so long. Nationalizing pharma is a great idea.
