The United States is so bereft of its own unique culture that its Mr. World contestant is literally dressed like a comic book character.
That tracks.
That tracks.

I guess any chance to shit on America.
I mean…I get it. But think about if it makes sense…
They’re honoring their countries’ rich, unique histories and cultures.
If all we’ve got is comic books, that seems pretty weak and shallow by comparison.
But, as I implied, maybe that’s all we are.
That’s not all we are.
We export much of the world’s popular culture and have a rich tradition of art and music, much of it arising from immigrant and minority communities because that’s WHO WE ARE.
Yes, the costume was dumb but it’s not ALL WE ARE.
I’m very well-versed in American history. I know who we are.
But I’m also aware of America’s serious flaws. And I can joke about them if I want to.
Learn to laugh. Or don’t. Who cares?
Why waste time being offended?
It’s not that serious.
Just… want more people to notice…
But they’d never have done it.
Sadly, we are in our fascist era, so this is the only option 😔
That includes Native American culture, because America stole all its land, people, and culture from hundreds of distinct peoples.
White American and British musicians copied them. Elvis, The Stones and the Beatles have admitted as much.
If you want to know about the beginning of rock and roll, read about Sister Rosetta Tharpe.
(Also rock n’ roll was invented by Black Americans, so no, rockstars aren’t ’British’ lol)

Superhero culture is definitely a mostly USA thing.
As is going to Party City to pick up a costume, which it appears they did.
But if fictional comic book characters represent the epitome of our national heritage, history, and culture, that’s pretty pathetic.
Especially compared with the beautiful, meaningful national costumes of the other countries.
(England’s was pretty lame, too, tho.)
in which case the original point still stands valid
All the attributes that Native Americans and waves and waves of immigrants contributed.
This cheesy contest just chose generic white guy in a bad costume.
But America’s cultural heritage is fairly new, is shaped by our diverse, multicultural peoples, and often usurped by commercialism, fantasy, and jingoism.
IOW, we can be very superficial.
Like that guy.
(Ha I'm getting awfully serious here.)
But the difference is, the US guy was dressed like a cartoon whose only connection to US history is that he’s dressed in red white and blue.
The equivalent would be if, say, the Japanese entrant had dressed like an anime character.
